GRASS, BULLS AND DAFFODILS

It has been like spring here the last few days...60 degrees by early afternoon. The birds are singing, the frogs are croaking and the bees are buzzing...not to mention the daffodils are blooming, and we are getting ready for the bull sale on Saturday. We spent the afternoon putting together these heavy weight panels for corrals for the bulls and heifers. This year is a little different as the bulls and heifers for sale will not be in mud, but on beautiful green grass. Sam was helping us out with the exact placement of the panels...Ty was off somewhere, sneaking up on a heifer or a bull. He is very good at sneaking!!
I put this picture in for the kids. This is one of the bulls coming home...he has to come off a big truck and walk down the stairs. You would think that 34 bulls cramped into a big drafty truck for 5 hours would be glad to get out into wide open spaces...but, actually, they have to be prodded and even shocked a little(last resort)to get them out!
This good-looking fellow is Pam's prize bull this year. I think he is in the sale...one day he is in the sale and the next he is not...she wants to keep him. See how straight over the top he is, and a nice round to his butt, and smooth across his shoulder...those make him good. But it is the ultrasound they did on him that show what is inside him....a 17 1/2 inch ribeye...well marbled...in other words...GOOOOD eating, and he would pass those genes onto his offspring which could make him very valuable bull to have at your ranch. There....a lesson on bull production!!

After the bull session is over, one of my favourite jobs begins...delivering bulls to different ranches around the state...usually not too far away. I have seen some beautiful ranches in very remote areas. Everything is greening up here as I imagine it is in BC...don't worry, Leah...it will even come to Newfoundland soon! I took a picture of these daffodils late one evening at the horse barn...soon there will be thousands of them all along the roads here...it is a pretty time of year.

I will miss seeing those beautiful daffodils this spring. I remember driving into the ranch last year and seeing all those daffodils along the drive. There's a little something in the mail from us too but it will probably be late. I expect you will be celebrating your birthday next week anyway. Hope the sale goes well.
